Home Remedies and Treatment Protocols

Allergies

-Natural D-Hist by Orthomolecular-take as directed on the bottle (D-hist Jr for kids). This product does contain ascorbic acid, which is one thing Veritas is trying to get away from (because of it’s negative effect on copper). But Dr. Ben is keeping D-hist as a short-term option for severe allergy symptoms until we find a suitable and effective alternative for this product.

-OMG nose spray

-OMG sublingual drops

-Sinus rinse with netti pot twice daily; consider adding a splash of Restore liquid to saline rinse as well.

Cold & Flu

Flu prevention:

  • Influenzinum 9C Adults and children 12 years of age and older take 16 beads by mouth once weekly x 4 weeks and then one final dose (also 16 beads) 1 month later. For children 5-12 years of age, reduce each dose to 8 beads. And for children < 5 years of age, reduce each dose to 5 beads.
  • Flu time essential oil blend- apply to bottom of feet 1-2 times daily and diffuse throughout flu season. Appropriate for all ages.
  • Thymuline by Homeocare. Take 3 granules under the tongue once weekly during cold/flu season for immune system support.

 

Immune system support and supportive treatment if you do get the flu/cold:

Option 1

-Influenzinum 9C- Take as directed on the bottle (*this is applicable only to flu- all other remedies below apply to any cold/URI as well as flu).

Option 2:

– Thymuline by Homeocare. Take 3 granules under the tongue as needed at the onset of illness. May do as frequently as every 2 hours x 1-2 days then reduce the frequency as illness subsides.

Option 3:

– Oscillococcinum- Adults and children 2 years of age and older take 1 dose at onset of symptoms and repeat every 6 hours for two additional doses. Allow the pellets to dissolve in the mouth, at least 15 minutes before or after meals.

Option 4:

-Viracid- take one capsule every hour while awake on day one and then 2 capsules three times a day until illness resolves. This product does contain ascorbate, which Veritas is trying to get away from because of its negative effects on copper in the body. However, it is an effective antiviral and its effect ton copper should be minimal if only used in short intervals if needed for acute illness.

Option 5:

-Argentyn 23 silver spray: 4 sprays per nostril every 15 minutes for 8 doses then hourly

-Argentyn 23 silver: nebulize 1 teaspoon 3-5 times a day (do not mix with anything else)

Option 6:

-3% food grade hydrogen peroxide: 1 spray in each nostril hourly

-3% food grade hydrogen peroxide: nebulize with 20 drops of peroxide mixed with 2 ml sterile water and a pinch of baking sod

 

Things to do with any of the above options

– Increase whole food vitamin C (like Pure Radiance powder or Innate Response tablets) to bowel tolerance (so triple or quadrupling normal daily dose is probably a good goal)
– Increase cod liver oil to 2-4 times the usual daily dose for a few days.
NOTE: all of these treatment options work best in people who have a baseline of health and strong immune system. 80% of the immune system resides in the gut (“gut-associated lymphatic tissue” for you research types), so a healthy gut is key. Probiotics and appropriate levels of stomach acid are key for a healthy gut. A diet of at least 80-90% real food (food made by God in as close to the form that God made it as possible….ie, not hybridized to be more sugary as most fruits are, not genetically altered like GMO food, not full of artificial preservative, food coloring, flavor enhancers and pesticides). Eat lots of colorful veggies (purple, green, red, yellow), clean meats, low glycemic fruits (like berries and apples), nuts, seeds, eggs, and beans. Grains need to be low glycemic grains like kamut, spelt, buckwheat, and almond or coconut flour.

 

Cough

  • Same as Head cold, but can add 20 drops of 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide (pay close attention to get 3%! If you get 35%, you will need to dilute it down to 3% before using this recipe) in 2 ml of distilled water with a pinch of baking soda. Nebulize every 4 hours as needed for cough/congestion. You can order an inexpensive at-home nebulizer for $40 at www.outpatientmd.com.
  • May add food grade peroxide to humidifier in sleeping room at proper dilution. Using the 3% Food Grade at the dilution of 11 oz per gallon of distilled water:
  • Natranix natural cough syrup from Orthomolecular.
  • Manuca honey 1-2 teaspoons 4 times a day as needed.
  • Consider IV vitamin C, IV ozone and UV light IV for more serious infection

Earache/ Ear Infection

 

  • Garlic Ear drops for pain- crush garlic and dissolve in olive oil for pain. Use every 2 hours for pain.
  • May also use a few drops of Breastmilk in affected ear every 2 hours for infection. It Works in 24-48 hours.
  • May also use Coconut Oil- 2 drops in ear every 2 hours for infection. Colloidal silver (Argentyn 23, Mesosilver or Sovereign silver), 4 drops 4 times/day. Acute use of chiropractor to adjust the spine during an infection.
  • A device called the “Ear Popper” can be found on Amazon. It helps relieve middle ear pressure (by forcing open eustachian tubes) and can help fluid to drain down the eustachian tubes. This device forces your ears to pop like when on an airplane or when descending from high altitude.
  • Warm/wet compresses for comfort
  • Back off grains and double or triple amount of probiotics that normally take
  • Back off dairy to reduce mucous production and reduce inflammatory response that occurs if a person is sensitive to dairy

Prevention of Ear Infections

  • Breastfeeding for 6 months at least for children.
  • Cut out sugar and grains.
  • No gluten.
  • Cut out dairy.
  • Eat fermented foods daily and add Restore liquid three times daily to help diversify good flora

Eczema- use any and all of following

  • Decrease fungal load by decreasing sugar and grains.
  • Increase healthy fats such as olive oil, coconut oil, and avocados in diet.
  • Natural Emollients such as Shea Butter, coconut oil on skin.
  • Increase Fish oil/DHA supplements like cod liver oil or Yes brand Essential Fatty Acids.
  • Consider Borage oil supplements.
  • If not improving may need to consult with practitioners about using Colloidal Silver orally.

Gout

  • Tart Cherry extract 1000mg 4-6x/day and if needed.
  • You can add Stinging Nettle extract 500mg three times a day for flare  

Migraines

Magnesium gel by Dr. Fitt, rubbed into temples as directed (from Natural Health Market or from DrFitt.com)

  • Magnesium/boron/bicarb soaks. Mix 1 cup epsom salts, 1 cup baking soda, and 1 TBS borax laundry soap in a bath tub of warm water and soak x 15-20 minutes.
  • Apply topical magnesium to forehead, neck, and temples

The Root Cause Protocol is a series of steps (things to stop and things to start) that was developed by Morley Robbins after he went on a crusade to try and figure out the very root cause to inflammation and oxidative stress.

Inflammation and oxidative stress are found throughout all chronic disease and just aging in general, so understanding the root cause of these can help to reverse and prevent various symptoms and diseases.

Instead of focusing only on the various germs and toxins that turn on the immune system and drive inflammation (such as candida yeast, lyme, viruses and parasites or toxins like heavy metals), we are trying to go deeper. Why are these germs and toxins allowed to build up to a level where they can trigger the inflammatory process? The body is designed to deal with these germs and toxins but something is impeding it. It turns out that minerals are the missing piece of the puzzle. The medical literature points to three minerals in particular: too much iron, too little magnesium and too little copper (or copper present, but in a non-usable form). So, the Root Cause Protocol focuses on diet and whole food based supplements that help to reduce iron levels and increase magnesium and copper levels. Once these mineral levels are balanced then the 9,000 enzymes in the body can work properly. Enzymes that convert your cholesterol to vitamin D, enzymes that run your immune system, enzymes that make your stomach acid, enzymes that convert your inactive thyroid to active thyroid, etc. So, before chasing any bug or toxin or treating any symptom with a pharmaceutical or supplement, we recommend normalizing these minerals.

Root Cause of Symptoms and Disease

Oxidative stress damages our cells. When a cell is damaged it can’t produce adequate energy. A low energy cell can’t do it’s job and ultimately causes tissues, organs, and full body systems to be inflamed and not work properly, and this leads to symptoms we call disease and aging.

There are many things that can cause oxidative stress and the body is equipped to handle them via antioxidant enzymes. However, too much oxidative stress can overwhelm our antioxidant enzyme systems. The number one cause of oxidative stress in most Americans is too much IRON in the TISSUE (even if iron is low in the BLOOD it can still be high in the tissue). Too much iron in our tissue causes oxidative stress AND blocks our antioxidant enzymes from doing their job.

Magnesium and copper help to reduce oxidative stress by moving iron out of our tissues and turning on our antioxidant enzymes.

So, our goal is to decrease iron and increase magnesium and copper in the body. Processed American food and grain in particular are often fortified with

iron. Consumption of these must be greatly reduced or stopped. Because of modern farming techniques, processed food (and even conventionally grown fruits and vegetables) are notoriously low in Magnesium and Copper, so we have to deal with these 3 main issues of:

1. Low magnesium
2. High iron
3. Unavailable copper

So, how do I deal with these issues? Magnesium

(different people tolerate different forms so feel free to experiment):

Topical:

Magnesium chloride oil or lotion – detoxing, metabolism, kidney function – use topically every day

Oral supplements:
Magnesium citrate – not recommended because of bowel irritationMagnesium glycinate –good absorption rate; relaxing; better for leaky gut and nerve pain
Magnesium malate – energizing; better for fibromyalgia and muscle painMagnesium oxide – poor absorption so must be taken in small doses throughout the day
Magnesium sulfate – small oral doses, laxative effect, best in bath or foot soakMagnesium taurate – particularly good for cardiovascular health
Magnesium orotate— energizing, penetrates into cells well
Magnesium threoante – brain injuries, PTSD, depression, anxiety, neurological condition

Other Magnesium options:
Magnesium water recipe – improves absorption of magnesium; 1 bottle of sparkling water + 1/4tsp of magnesium hydroxide

Instructions: Empty some of the sparkling water, add the magnesium hydroxide, put lid on, shake, let sit for a few seconds, open and let air out; then repeat one more time. You can start by drinking about 2oz per day.

Baths and Foot Soaks:

Baths:
Twice weekly whole body soaks:
1 cup of Epsom Salt – magnesium 1 cup of baking soda – bicarbonate 2 Tbs Borax – boron (keeps iron from entering cell membrane)
OR
Twice weekly foot soaks: 1/2 cup Epsom Salt – magnesium ó cup baking soda – bicarbonate 2 Tbs Borax – boron

Reduce the Excess Iron

•Donate blood or get a therapeutic phlebotomy
•Taking Apple Cider Vinegar – 1Tbs every day in water
•Taking a supplement called Lactoferrin by Jarrow as directed •Drinking Golden Milk – Google for recipe
•Take Rice Bran – 1tsp every day in water (best on an empty stomach) •Quercetin every day
•PolyMVA – 1/2 tsp a day

Good Sources of Copper:

•Whole Food Vitamin C
•Bee Pollen (also great source of B vitamins)
•Beef liver from a grass-fed source (also a great source of B vitamins) Magnesium

Some additional things to consider

1. If you are excessively tired, experiencing a lot of stress, or been diagnosed with “adrenal fatigue”, consider drinking an Adrenal Cocktail on an empty stomach around 10am and 2pm every day. Or, if you are relatively healthy, just be sure you are consuming adequate real or sea salt and vitamin C every day (in a drink like this or in your diet):

Adrenal Cocktail:

Option 1: 4oz of purified water . tsp of sea salt . tsp of cream of tartar ó tsp of whole food vitamin C powder (or juice from 1/2 lemon or lime)
Option 2: 4 oz of coconut water . tsp sea salt ó tsp of whole food vitamin C (or juice from 1/2 a lemon or lime)

  1. Cod Liver oil every day is a good source of Vitamins A (retinol), D, E and K. Retinol is important for copper transport.
  2. Trace Minerals: Fulvic 400X 1 dropper in water every day or ConcenTrace Trace Mineral drops 1/2 tsp in water every day. Contains 74 trace minerals
  3. Diatomaceous Earth 1tsp in water at the beginning or end of a day (helpspull aluminum out of the body. Aluminum blocks the copper transportprotein)
  4. Taurine 500mg every day (helps magnesium into the cell and helps makethe copper transport protein)
  5. Whole Food Vitamin E from wheat germ oil (powerful antioxidant,protecting cell membranes in particular; contains selenium at its core)
  6. Iodine (after magnesium and selenium levels are adequate). Meanwhile,eat foods with a good source of iodine: pasture-raised eggs, kelp, seaweed, Cod, cranberries.

Things you need to STOP:

1. STOP Vitamin-D ONLY Supplements (Supplemental “vitamin”- D is actually a hormone and causes you to lose potassium through the urine

and stops retinol [vitamin A] production in the liver which is needed for

many things including the copper transport protein.

  1. STOP Calcium Supplements (Calcium BLOCKS Magnesium & Ironabsorption)
  2. STOP Iron Supplements (Iron SHUTS DOWN Copper metabolism)
  3. STOP synthetic vitamin C which is Ascorbic Acid (Ascorbic Acid disruptsthe Copper)
  4. STOP High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) & Synthetic Sugars (HFCS LowersLiver Copper & Raises Liver Iron)
  5. STOP LOW Fat Diet (Saturated Fat is needed for proper Copperabsorption)
  6. STOP Using Industrialized “Heart Healthy” Omega-6 Oils! (e.g. Soybean,Corn, Canola Oils)
  7. STOP Using products with Fluoride (toothpaste, bottled water, etc.)
  8. STOP Taking “Drugstore” Multivitamins & Pre-natals (They contain the firstfour items above, plus trace amounts of fluoride)
  9. STOP Using Citrate in Foods & Supplements (e.g. “Natural Calm”)
  10. STOP Using Colloidal Silver as an Antibiotic (It lowers Copper status in the body.)

Muscle Cramps

  • Increase oral magnesium (magnesium glycinate or malate) to daily dose of 5 mg per pound of body weight.
  • Magnesium gel applied to affected area before bed.
  • Magnesium/boron/bicarb soaks. Mix 1 cup epsom salts, 1 cup baking soda, and 1 TBS borax laundry soap in a bath tub of warm water and soak x 15-20 minutes.
  • Adrenal cocktail twice daily. Mix 2-4 ounces of water with 2-4 ounces of coconut water (high in potassium), 1/4 tsp real sea salt, and juice of 1 lime.

Stomach Bug/ Vomiting and Diarrhea

  • Prevention- ingesting probiotics and fermented foods daily.
  • Restore liquid 1 tsp three times daily to help diversity probiotics.
  • Acute illness- Put stomach to rest until no vomiting for 3 hours then probiotics every hour with coconut water or water in very small sips. Tea made with grated fresh ginger is better than ginger ale or gatorade.
  • After illness- Homemade bone broth as tolerated for nutrient replacement.
  • For diarrhea that persists more than 2 days: Intestinol by Orthomolecular, one 3 times/day.

 

 

Pink Eye/ Conjunctivitis

  • 2 drops of breast milk four times daily in the eye or
  • 2 drops Colloidal Silver four times daily in the eye until symptoms abate
  • Warm/wet compress several times/day as needed

Sore Throat/ Head Cold (try any of below)

  • BVF spray to the back of the throat 4 times daily (from Natural Health Market)
  • Viracid- 1 per hour while awake for 1 day then 2 capsules three times daily for 1 day if needed.   • 1 tsp or 2 capsules cod liver oil 2-3 times daily until illness resolution, as this has natural vitamin D in it, balanced with the appropriate amount of Vitamin A (retinol).
  • Gargle and swallow 1 tsp mesosilver three times daily.
  • Consider IV vitamin C, IV ozone and UV light IV for more serious infections

Structured Water

The science of structured water’s benefits is in its infancy, but along with Dr. Gerald Pollack, we at Veritas Medical believe the research indicates benefit to drinking water that is most structured like the water found in nature— flowing water exposed to the UV light of the Sun, and water in the cellar structure of plants, animals and ourselves. We aren’t affiliated with any of these sources of structured water in any way, these are just some good options to structure your water that Dr. Edwards considers legitimate:

An under-the-sink system like the one at www.aqualiv.com. This is a reasonably priced, under-sink model that structures your drinking water, and has excellent filtration as well.

A whole-house system, similar to what you’ll find at www.NaturalActionTechnologies.com. This will take care of all the water you come in contact within your home.

Wart Removal on skin- any or all of following

  • Duct tape – wear 24 hours daily and change daily until wart resolves.

 

  • Dab apple cider vinegar onto cotton ball and apply to wart covering with band aid and leave it overnight at least (all day if possible) and change daily.

 

  • Over the counter wart freezing spray.

 

  • Since warts are viral, increasing antioxidants in diet and increasing immune system will help the body to resolve wart over time.

Nasal Sinus Rinse Recipes

Recipe #1 (Similar to Xlear Nasal Spray) :

1 cup of water (8 ounces) (Filtered Water) 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp of xylitol crystals
1/2 tsp baking soda
4 drops of grapefruit seed extract (optional for infection)

Recipe #2:

1 cup of water (8 ounces) (Filtered Water) 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp of xylitol crystals
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp colloidal silver (optional for infection)

Recipe #3:

1 cup of water (8 ounces) (Filtered Water) 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp of xylitol crystals
1/2 tsp baking soda
6 drops of black seed oil

Recipe #4:

1 cup of water (8 ounces) (Filtered Water) 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp of xylitol crystals
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar

Consider adding one drop of any of the following essential oils frankincense, rosemary and eucalyptus, peppermint, or oregano.

Itchy Red Eyes (Visine Alternative)

A more holistic alternative, if you are having general red eyes or itch, is a product called Similasan. There are several formulas for allergy, dry eyes, general irritation, etc…

Similasan can be found at most health markets and Many drug stores and superstores.

UTI/Bladder Infection

    • D-mannose 500mg every 2 hours while awake for 5 days.
    • Increase liquids (water and cranberry concentrate not juice due to high sugar content).

Flu Bomb Recipe

  • 4 drops of lemon
  • 4 drops of Thieves or On Guard
  • 3 drops of oregano
  • 2 drops of Melaleuca Alternafolia
  • 2 Drops of frankincense
  • 4 drops of vegetable oil

In 00 capsules – take 2, 2x a day with meals and water.
Kids: Multiply the recipe by 10, add to an empty 15ml bottle with a roller ball on top and apply to their feet.

  • 4 drops of clove bud
  • 4 drops of lemon
  • 2 drops of cinnamon bark
  • 2 drops of eucalyptus globules
  • 1 drop of rosemary
